Frequently asked questions

How does a Wi-Fi QR code work?

The code holds the network name (SSID), password and security type. When a guest scans it with their phone camera, the phone offers to join the network and connects in one tap, with no password to type.

Does it work on both iPhone and Android?

Yes. iPhones on iOS 11 or later and most Android phones on Android 10 or later scan it with the built-in camera. Older Android phones can use Google Lens or any QR scanner app.

Is my Wi-Fi password uploaded?

No. The code is made entirely in your browser. The network name and password are never sent to or stored on lnk.hk’s servers.

Will the code still work after I change the password?

No. The password is written into the code itself, so after changing the password or the network name you need to make and print a new one.

Which security type should I choose?

Nearly all routers today use WPA2 or WPA3, so choose WPA / WPA2 / WPA3. Only very old equipment uses WEP. If the network has no password, choose No password.

Is it safe to put a Wi-Fi password in a QR code?

Anyone who can see the code can join the network, just as if the password were written on the wall. Shops and offices should give guests a separate guest network, kept apart from tills and computers, and change its password from time to time.

Can it connect to a hidden network?

Yes. Tick Hidden network and make sure the network name matches the router’s setting exactly, including capital letters.
