Got a short link you don’t trust? Paste it here to see which website it really leads to, and whether Google Safe Browsing flags it, before you decide to click.
Why check a short link first
A short link hides where it goes. That is what makes it convenient, and also why scam messages use them. Texts and WhatsApp messages posing as banks, couriers or government departments often carry a short link to a look-alike phishing site.
Expand the link first and you see the real domain before you click. If it doesn’t match who the message claims to be from, delete the message.
| Result | What it means | What to do |
| Not flagged | Google Safe Browsing has no bad record for now | Still check the domain is right |
| Flagged as unsafe | The destination or a stop on the way is listed as phishing, malware or similar | Don’t open it; delete the message |
| Couldn’t connect | The link is dead or mistyped, or the site blocks checks | Ask the sender |
